Some characteristics of courses at the University of Brighton that are well rated in the National Student Survey

Stuart Cameron and Adrian Chown

October 2007

In the first two iterations of the annual National Student Survey (2005 and 2006), some courses at the University of Brighton were particularly well rated. However, the survey provides little detailed information about the features of these courses that students value. This website reports on a research project designed to identify some of these detailed characteristics.

In interviews, the leaders of eight courses that have received high scores were asked to identify aspects of their courses they thought students particularly appreciated. Their conversations are reported as follows:

Part I provides a summary of the course leaders' comments, and video/audio excerpts from the interviews that illustrate and elaborate points made in the summary.

Part II (Word document, 300kb) provides full transcripts of the interviews.
