Mithras gardens
A garden area at Mithras House, completed during summer 2008, offers a calm retreat for both staff and students. The area, previously used for a long term research project by the then, School of Environment, was cleared to expose a plain concrete base within a fenced off area with scope for a green space.
Located between Mithras House and Mithras Annexe, the garden has open access from the adjoining footpath. Existing trees and cimbers have been used to define the space and provide green texture. Raised beds echo the retaining walls to the west side and provide a stepped margin to the existing wall.
Simplicity in landscaping and planting has created a serene area that is both robust in build and contemporary in feel.
Shrubs and flowering plants include: Brachyglottis 'Sunshine' (Daisy Flower), Santolina chamaecyparissus (Cotton Lavender), Lavandula intermedia (French Lavender), Hebe pinguifolia 'Sutherlandii' (Hebe), Parthenocissus (Virginia Creeper).
