UoB Webteam - text only pages
Text-Only Facility
For users with disabilities, it can be helpful to provide the means to
view pages in a 'text-only' format. This is a page whose content has been
stripped down to only the most basic html elements, such as H?, P, BR,
A, OL, UL, LI, B (or STRONG).
A well designed web page does not need to have a text-only version just
to fulfil the accessibility regulations, in many cases, a well structured
text based navigation method will actually prove superior. Many of the
schools sites do not offer a text-only version, yet function adequately
in text-only readers. Nevertheless, we provide a text-only parser which
will convert any page referred to it into a text based format. This resides
on our server and converts HTML pages into plain text.
This facility is built into any page on the central website (through
the page header), but can be easily be added to your own site by adding
the following link to each page.
<a href="http://www.brighton.ac.uk/cgi-bin/wac.cgi">text-only</a>
- You must ensure the text-only version is the informational equivalent
of the graphical version.
- This feature will only work on sites within the brighton.ac.uk and
bsms.ac.uk domains.
