Plagiarism
Information
The university potentially sees the use of the service as one of its strategies toreduce plagiarism, which include:

the use of the plagiarism awareness pack (student support);

reviewing and designing assessments to reduce the opportunities for plagiarism (developing good academic practices);

the university's revised academic misconduct policy (which supports academic integrity by dealing seriously with allegations of academic misconduct, including plagiarism).
The strategies aim to:

promoting academic integrity

deterring plagiarism

provoking discussion about plagiarism

supporting students to improve their referencing skills
ASC have endorsed 3 revised ways for the use of the TurnitinUK Plagiarism Detection Software as follows:
I. in the context of the academic misconduct procedure (as an aid to the detection of plagiarism where a student is suspected)
II. for the whole class/group summative screening of selective assignments/modules (to monitor the incidences of plagiarism)
III. incorporated into formative assignment work as part of a suitable module or study skills session (as a developmental tool to develop scholarly writing and referencing practices amongst students)
