Submitting your report
Please submit your report to the Registry by attaching it to an email addressed to:
Externalexaminers@brighton.ac.uk
Your submission will be acknowledged. You can also submit your claim forms for fees and expenses by email. But please note that receipts for all expenses should also be sent with expense claims.
How is my report considered by the University?
The University has an external examiner reporting and response process for consideration of reports. Further details of how your report is considered, and the feedback you should receive on your comments, is included in the External Examiners’ Handbook.
Claim forms
When should I claim?
External examiners should claim fees annually, following submission of their annual external examiner’s report. Please note that the University does not automatically pay fees to external examiners and a claim for each year of tenure should be completed.
Claims for expenses can be submitted as appropriate.

Where do I send the claims form to?
You should send forms directly to the School for which you are an external examiner. Details will be sent to you or refer to the External Examiners’ Handbook.
When will my claims be paid?
Claims must be checked initially by the School and then sent to Registry for authorisation. Payments will be made to the account indicated on your claim at the end of the month. Claims need to be received by the Finance Department by the first week of the month if they are to meet this deadline, but please allow at least a week on top of this for your claim to be checked and authorised. Please refer to the External Examiners' Handbook for further details.
Induction for new external examiners
The University holds an induction workshop for new external examiners annually in February. The day provides an introduction to the role of the external examiner at the University of Brighton, the University's examination and assessment regulations and there is an opportunity to meet University staff over lunch.
The next workshop will be held on Wednesday 20th February 2013.
Details of the next workshop and an application form will be made available to download closer to the event.
