Research Challenges 2011-12
The outline closing date was Friday 23 December 2011
Following the meeting of the Research Challenges Panel to shortlist outline applications to the scheme, it was considered that the majority of applications submitted did not demonstrate sufficient evidence of originality and innovation to meet the criteria of the scheme. The Panel would also have liked to see a spread of applications across wider disciplinary areas.
The University is therefore reissuing the call for outline applications to the Research Challenges Scheme, with a deadline of midday on Friday 23rd December for the submission of one-page outline proposals. The outline proposals will be shortlisted and those selected will be asked to develop a full proposal for submission by 10th February 2012, which they will be invited to present to an interview panel in late February 2012. The final selection of proposals to be funded will be made from the full proposals submitted and presented to the panel.
Potential applicants are reminded that the Research Challenges Scheme offers awards of up to £50,000 to fund work of a highly innovative and novel nature. The scheme aims to encourage the testing of research ideas or approaches which are significantly new and original and to support projects which have potential for high scientific and/or user impact but also demonstrate a high level of ambition and adventurousness.
The scheme is competitive with awards being made on the basis of merit. It is a university-wide initiative, and applications are invited from academic and research staff from all Schools and Faculties.
