User Guide - Features
for DataPhones
Overview
These are specialised instruments designed to provide a high quality
telephone and serial data transmission simultaneously to different
destinations. They are factory modified digital phones; some of the
facilities such as hands-free operation have been sacrificed to allow
the data transmission facility.
The
important special keys:
Program top right
Own line 1 bottom right
Own line 2 second up on right
Transfer "T" centre
left
End "E" centre left
To understand how to use the more important voice features of the
telephone part it will help to know that the instrument can have one
or two active voice calls on "own line 1" and "own line
2" (or Access 1 and Access 2) with the status of each shown by
the red LED alongside the buttons controlling them. If a call on line
1 is being made or answered (the LED alongside the own line 1 button
will be on), the call can be put on hold and a second call made or
answered on line 2 by keying the own line 2 button. Attention can be
moved between the two calls by pushing the appropriate key. Either
call can be terminated without affecting the other, or the two calls
can be joined with or without further participation, i.e. call transfer
or setting up a conference call.
The data call facility can be considered as "own line 3",
but obviously can not be cross connected with a voice call.
Enquiry calls
Key own line 2, dial the other extension as usual. Use own line 1 and
own line 2 keys to switch between the lines. Key E to end (clear)
the active connection when you have finished with it.
Call transfer
Key own line 2, dial the other extension, announce the call, key T
and hang up. If the other extension does not answer, or will not
take the call, key E then own line 1 to return to the caller.
Conference calls
Key own line 2, dial the other extension, announce the conference and
key 3. If the other extension does not answer, or does not wish to
join, key E then own line 2 to return to the conference. Replace
handset to leave the conference.
Ringing options
The usual internal and external rings can be modified by programming
the instrument. Press the following keys in sequence to change them:
program
own
line 1
3 (or 1 or 4 ) 1 = normal, 3 = one ring,
4 = two rings
own line 1
program
Call holding
To put a call on hold, warn the caller and then press the key associated
with the call (the one with the lamp flashing by it, usually own
line 1). Press the key again to retrieve the call.
Abbreviated dialling
No information currently available.
Last number redial
Digital phones do not usually have a general last number redial facility.
The last external number redial - *** - will work. A key can be programmed
to store the number just dialled when it is pressed, but this needs
to be set up by the exchange manager.
On-hook dialling
Dial the number and when it is answered, pick up the receiver. Note
that there is not a full hands-free facility on these phones and
you must pick up the receiver to continue the call. The phone will
bleep at intervals until you pick up the receiver to remind you a
call is being made.
